How Send Beams works
Send Beams sends your files directly between two devices. A small backend only helps the two devices find each other — your photos and videos travel over a private, encrypted tunnel and are never stored online.
- 1
Pick files & get a code
On the sending device, choose any files and tap “Get a code”. Send Beams shows a 6-digit code, a QR code and a shareable link.
- 2
Pair the devices
On the other device, type the 6-digit code (or scan the QR / open the link). The two devices announce each other through the backend.
- 3
Direct transfer
A direct device-to-device connection opens and the files stream across it — fast, and without ever touching a server.
Encrypted & private
Transfers use WebRTC's built-in encryption. There are no accounts, and file contents are never uploaded or kept.
No size limits
Because files stream in chunks directly between devices, you can send large videos and whole folders of photos.
Good to know
- • Both devices need to be online at the same time for a direct transfer.
- • Same-network (Wi-Fi) transfers are the fastest. Most cross-network transfers work too.
- • A small number of strict corporate or carrier networks block direct connections.
- • Send Beams doesn't scan files for viruses — only send and accept files from people you trust.
